Christian Eilers’ Personal Blog
“In case you’re wondering… or in case I forget.”
This is simply my personal blog, where I go rant when I’m in that kind of mood.
My name’s Christian Eilers, and I’m a traveler by passion, New Yorker by birth, and writer when I can concentrate. I put two of these passions together, the traveling and writing, down into one site: the Dauntless Jaunter Travel Site; there I write about promoting the importance of travel, learning about the different people that make up this world, travel destinations, language learning, travel hacking, and some other stuff dear to my heart.
I grew up in Astoria, Queens, a large Greek neighborhood in the most ethnically-diverse borough of New York, minutes from Manhattan. My mother is half-Indonesian, half-Chinese, though she just considers herself Indonesian; she was born and raised in Bandung, the capital of West Java, the third-largest city in the fourth-largest country. My father is ethnically German and Russian-Jewish, though he was raised in New Jersey. Although I was born in the United States, my first language was Bahasa Indonesia, since my mother was a stay-at-home mom during my early years. Somehow I came out looking Hispanic – but I’m good with that.
